movie review - love actually

genre : mush
rating : very good in parts, okay on the whole

old movie, yes. caught it on tv.
this is a hugh grant movie. so you know what to expect. very very mushy chick-flick. some witty lines and a happy ending. this is exactly that.

what makes it different is the concept. this movie isn't a love story. it's more like an anthology of short love stories, loads of small stories that come together one christmas night. and it tries to explore "love" completely, friendships, yearnings, unrequited love, impossible love, extra-marital love... very extensive. so many stories make for a movie filled with witticisms, mushy moments and comic relief. also some awkward scenes which are very... errr... crappy.

this concept works for the movie. the music works too. and then there is the cast. quite star-heavy. some incredible but subtle performances and others are short appearances [ cheap tricks to spice up the film, they work ]. bill nighy, colin firth, liam neeson, emma thompson, keira knightley, billy bob thornton, elisha cuthbert, shannon elizabeth, denise richards, claudia schiffer, martine mccutcheon and the incredible rowan atkinson.

watch the movie for a feel good experience. nothing profound.
