tamil steel

got a new bike - the royal enfield bullet electra 5s

getting to know gujarat, getting to know the bike

[ click images to enlarge ]

excellent road surfaces across gujarat. city roads, highways. smooth sailing all the way.

decent country roads too. except for the cattle hazard.

getting familiar with the ancient, at lothal.

getting familiar with the bullet electrical system. the culprit turned out to be a short-circuit which kept blowing the fuse. a royal enfield technician rode out 100km from their ahmedabad service center to help. no charge.

almost-tempting food joint at dholera

almost tempting carbonated drinks, wide selection, at vataman. local beverage, international packaging [ notice the green canada dry bottles ].

gujarat's most popular commercial vehicle, closely related to the electra. these three wheelers perform a commendable service transporting, grain, milk, water, hay and passengers all over gujarat.

bike gets a break

thick, cool glass of mango juice for five bucks. the guy standing in the corner comes all the way from uttar pradesh. he transports, pulps and sells these mangoes at such ridiculous prices, barely makes any money and goes back home once the rains start.

wow, i never suspected you were the motorcycling sort! my respect for you just went through the roof!

so how come you decided on the 5-speed version? i guess you are not a bullet 'purist'. but then the 5-S probably cruises slightly better than the classic 4 speed.

are you a first-time bullet rider or did you have one earlier?

listen, if you are planning a ride through the Rann in July or something, let me know. Have been thinking of it for a long time.
Gujarat is one place I have been thinking of riding through for a long time

kai, thank you. you should be envious :p

indigo and nishi, as it is obvious, i did not take most of those pictures. i'll pass the credit on to the very able photographer :)

navinder ... i'm a bullet novice. bought the 5s because it was recommended for novices. lower maintenance. the cruising is the same as with the 4s. the only let downs are the location of the gear lever and the sound of the engine. do i know you, by any chance ?

i should hope so. i was with you in XLRI. maybe you knew me by my surname, Dullat.
damn, i hope you are just kidding, though.

anyway, your motorcycle will give you years of adventure and companionship, once you get to know it well. Run it in with care and it will last for decades.

i thought it was dullat !!

but dude what are you doing in pune and what's with all the stuff about rains?

that made me change my mind.

Sounds like quite a good run. Where was the short on your bike at? I am popping fuses on my Bullet sixty-5 like fireworks and can't figure it out!!! It is driving me nuts.

yell said...

the short was in the headlamp assembly.

it kept blowing when the handlebar turned.

another couple of places to look:
1. horn cables, they get too close to the silencer (melt, touch metal, blow)
2. indicator connections, the indicator housing can bend in case of a minor accident.
3. the fuse box / tool box.

hope you find it
